Drawmer, the British manufacturer introduced its first “Vintage” equalizers for the 500 Series, featuring Crush function —MQ-1 and MQ-2— at NAMM 2025.

Inspired by the legendary ‘Motown EQ’, the MQ-1 is a single-channel, 7-band proportional-Q equalizer, with frequency curves reminiscent of the renowned equalizers used in the famous Detroit studios of the 1960s. This 100% analog EQ features 7 bell-shaped curves, each with a variable cut/boost of ±10 dB, set at those sweet musical frequencies found on the original.

Meanwhile, the MQ-2 is not just a stereo equalizer. It also includes the same features as the MQ-1, plus an easy-to-use single-control stereo compressor and the ability to generate additional harmonics to smooth the signal and add warmth. The single-knob compressor is incredibly simple to use. Being program-dependent, it automatically adjusts Attack and Release characteristics based on the incoming signal, shaping the envelope to fit and control the audio. Additionally, it enhances the “Crush” function: the more you use the compressor, the more “Crush” you get. The signal path allows switching the order of the EQ and compressor to suit different needs. With clear metering for both compressor gain reduction and stereo output, setting up the MQ-2 at optimal levels is effortless.

The proportional-Q design in both models ensures that the bandwidth of each frequency band automatically adjusts with gain, providing a more intuitive and musical equalization experience.

“CRUSH” Function in the MQ-1 and MQ-2

But that’s not all—what truly sets the MQ-1 and MQ-2 apart, is the inclusion of the highly acclaimed ‘CRUSH’ function, found in the Drawmer 1971.

In the MQ-1, when the “Crush” circuit is activated, it introduces a pleasant harmonic saturation and that classic analog warmth, adding significant character to any signal passing through the unit. The result? It thickens the low end, enhances midrange presence, and delivers a delightful sparkle to the highs. The more you use the EQ, the more Crush you get!

Meanwhile, activating the “CRUSH” circuit in the MQ-2 transforms it into more than just an EQ and compressor—it becomes a powerful saturation tool. It enriches the signal with harmonic content, adding a subtle distortion, and that illusion of “analog warmth,” bringing new life and color to anything processed through it. It thickens the low end, enhances midrange presence, and adds a delicious sparkle to the highs. The more you use the EQ and compressor, the more “Crush” you get!
